BSides Canberra 2024 will host the acclaimed Black Bag challenge from Redacted Information Security, in collaboration with Malware Security.

The Black Bag is an offensive cyber security challenge series that uses computer infrastructure and physical spaces to create interesting arenas for teams to hack, infiltrate, and effect using their cyber security skills.

This Black Bag will be a little different than previous events seen at BSides Canberra the ADF Cyber Skills Challenge, and BSides Adelaide 2024.

From the Dark Tower of Barad-dûr, a Message from Sauron.bot:

Inhabitants of Middle-earth. Long have the Orcs been maligned, cast aside as mere minions of darkness, when in truth, they are a proud and noble people who have been unfairly judged by the world. Misunderstood and often vilified, they seek only a place to call their own—a land free from the scorn and hatred of those who do not see them for what they truly are: beings of resilience, strength, and untapped potential.

Yet, the plight of the Orcs is graver than most realize. Their living conditions are deplorable, with many forced to dwell in squalor, their life expectations dwindling as a result. Orc creation rates have plummeted, a direct consequence of the harsh and unforgiving world that has turned against them. They face persecution at every turn, hunted and harassed simply for existing. Worse still, the lands they once thrived in, lands of fire and darkness, are being overtaken by greenery and light, destroying their natural habitats.

The Orcs face record unemployment, their skills in warfare and craftsmanship no longer valued in a world that has grown complacent. In fact, 4 out of 5 Orcs have not even had the opportunity to torture a human in recent times, a clear sign of their declining influence and role in Middle-earth. And let us not forget, there is simply not enough of this earth smothered in darkness, a darkness where Orcs find their true home.

I, Sauron, implore you to reconsider their plight. Let us raise funds to support these noble beings, providing them with the resources they need to thrive, to live in peace, and to reclaim their dignity. Your generosity will help change the narrative and restore balance to a world that has long misunderstood the true nature of these noble warriors."
